Hello, I downloaded Dreamshell RC-1. I then burned the bootloader with Alcohol 120% and copied the DS file to my SD card. It worked and loaded the first game i tried (Another World), but now, when I choose "Load from SD card" it says "can't find DS_CORE.BIN. What should I do? DS_CORE.BIN is in the DS folder, so I don't understand. I asked onn theisozone.com forum, and it seems like many people are having this problem. Please help.

This happens when using card format fat this error occurs if using cards 2 gigs or below will give that erro.Use cards 4 gigs on for Dreamshell_rc1.
Say please class and the capacity of your card.
4 class not bad, but i recommended 6 and more.
On your adapter have wires?
The only thing I can advise you now, is to try another card...
Here is exactly what happens: The very first time I tried RC1 it worked perfectly, it brought up the list of everything on my card and I was able to play "Another World." The problem began when I turned off the Dreamcast and turned it back on to try another game. At this point when I chose "load from SD card" it continually rebooted the Dreamcast every time I chose that, until it finally said "can't find DS_CORE.BIN. It continued to do this until I reformatted the card, then it rebooted a few times and again said "Can't find DS_CORE.BIN If it hadn't worked the first time I tried it, then I would believe that it doesn't work. But the fact that it worked once makes me believe it is just a technical problem. Also, the older version of Dreamshell worked for a few of my games, including "Another World" and "Zussar Vassar." I refuse to give up. I really hope I am not a pain.
I was using the "rc1+ bootloader" but now I downloaded the RC1.cdi and it runs, but the file manager does not list any sd games. I deleted the DS folder, and used an older Dreamshell 4.0 disk and it reads the card, it lists the games on my sd card, but so far won't load any games. I'll try to put the DS folder again and see if that makes a difference.
The fact that it works in Beta does not mean that it will work in RC unfortunately.
If in RC at least it worked once, it can be assumed that the adapter itself is not the best quality.
Try to establish a closer connection to the serial port, there may be a poor contact.
Thanks so much. I figured it out, and it was all my fault. I was using the new RC disk and trying to play games for Beta 4. I have bought a new SD card, and now I have one for each version. I am sorry if I annoyed anyone with all my questions. I just didn't know what was wrong. I know better now. Thank you

you probalbly have to be careful WHEN you reset/switch off your dreamcast while using the SD. everyhting was working fine for a couple of month now. yesterday i tried a couple of ISOs, i reset the DC a lot. then all of a sudden Dreamshell did not boot anymore. it's stuck right after the logo screen, i get the 'loading...' and after that i am stuck on a black screen. i'll try to put a fresh DS Folder on the card later tonight.
anyone else with that problem?
I have 2 SD cards that doesn't work with DS 4.0 RC1. But they works with Beta3 and Beta4.

If yes, then could you provide DreamShell with old transfer protocol?
Yes, the driver is completely rewritten, but the main reason is in compilers. I can't build RC version on old compilers.
Your problem is not in the SD card, problem mostly in the adapters with bad quality.
Hello Swat, I have the exact same problem : the sd works on Beta 4 but not in RC 1.

I do not want to use the old compilers, I need to use the new compilers with new KOS.

The problem that I run into is that 50% of sdiso uploaders on isozone, don't say what versions of dreamshell to use.
I have rc1 and 50% of sdiso library on isozone dc sdisos DON'T WORK on it.
I have the same problem as OP but I don't know what sdiso are for rc1 or beta4 dreamshells. Now I think I got 10 sdiso on a 2gb (swat recommended a 32gb class 6 sd card but it DON'T WORK) so I use a 2 gb scandisc and all I see is that black screen of death "can't load file manager sd" crap.
I'm not going to use 2 different dreamshell cds or sd cards for each versions, that is ridiculous.
I was playing Tokyo that swat uploaded for me and it went to start game and nothing happened so I reset my dreamcast NOW ALL games DONT WORK.
Yes I checked if sd card is tight in sd reader is tight in serial port too. Once game froze, my sd never worked again.
Yes I only have 1 real dc controller plugged in.

Ok, I reformated the sd card (last resort) and it worked.
But what games are for beta and whats for rc1 so this doesn't keep happening ?
But weird how I just reformatted sd card again and put sfIII on it on rc1 (isozone said rc1) and it played for 5 minutes, then froze, then never played again so is it meant for beta 3 or beta 4 ?
So I guess we all must play a guessing game and keep reformatting our sd cards to troubleshoot what works, even though it works once, then doesnt again or uploaders post wrong info for exact dreamshell to be used. So be careful what you put on sd card for rc1, if you put multiple games on make sure they work more than once or you'll be reformating sd card constantly.
Ha erased and reformatted sd card again and only put sfIII on it, now sfIII works ha wtf lets see how long before it freezes.
Froze 10 minutes in. Smh looks like I got to reformat again.
I'm just not even going to put any games on sd except Doom and Wolfernstein and homebrews the hell with this.
