that video on youtube, is a home dvd player mechanism, he just use the motors and a cdrom laser deck. The home made board is the logic to open the tray but you can also power the original dvd-player board to deal with the tray.

needed:
Home dvd player drive (uses brushed motors) most work, cheap ones.
cdrom laser deck (any cd-rom laser) just connect correctly. and calibrate.
Same dvd board to open/close the tray (use relays and extra sensors in the tray to open/close the tray with the remote or dvd front panel, the good thing is dvd board goes to sleep when you power off the dvd to open or close the relays/switching transistors (or create your own logic board to do it all)
Connect the sensor switches and all the cables.

I will do this mod soon and will make a nice guide.
I need to find a cheap dvd player. for $5
