He's using a GDROM PCB but without the I.C controllers (removed probably because they were defective), so it's actually an empty board being used for its solder points and its daughter connector.

Ok I saw after,but desolder... for me not a very good idea but ok...

It's for testing! tested with SATA adapter all hd's ran unrestricted. The IDE only with 40GB and LB48.
